Kennedy shows winning form for Karlsruhe

Joshua Kennedy returned to his goal-scoring best to help German Bundesliga side Karlsruhe to a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg.

The towering 25-year-old Australian striker, who completed his transfer from FC Nurnberg in January, notched up his fourth goal in five games for his new club on Saturday.

Kennedy, who scored one of the Socceroos' three goals in their World Cup qualifier win against Qatar last month, missed a chance in the second half after mistiming a header off a cross from Alexander Iashvili.

But in the 73rd minute Kennedy took full advantage of another opportunity from the Georgia international whose sliding pass was expertly fired into the net by the Australian.

Kennedy had earlier helped set up a first-half goal when Wolfsburg keeper Diego Benaglio palmed off the Australian's header before Mario Eggiman collected the ball to slot it home from close range.

The visitors managed to level the scores shortly afterwards thanks to a well-placed shot from Marcel Schafer.

But Iashvili secured victory for the home side in injury time with a 14-metre shot into the top corner, ensuring the home side a fifth place spot in the Bundesliga table and lifting the club into the European places.
